Whacky Races Go-Karting

On a cold night in January over 25 Tablers, 41 club members and guests travelled to the Teamsport karting centre in deepest, darkest Crawley to try out their unique 3 level go-kart track.

The event was organised by Haslemere Round Table and opened up to the rest of Area 3 to enable the competition to heat up. The race was held as a 45 minute Le-Mans style race for teams of 2 drivers. After the mandatory safety briefing the teams were organised and we made our way trackside.  Pit-stops were practised and each of the drivers were required to complete 5 minutes of practice laps before the race started.

Go-karting is a regular occurence on table calendars but non of the attendees had ever seen a 3 level track before! Some of the tablers were starting to get a bit worried that their larger stature would affect the ability to get up the ramps between the levels, as it turns out their worry was for naught as the karts were more than powerful enough to throw even the largest in attendance around the track at breakneck speed.

The lap-times were steady to start with but as all of the drivers got used to the track layout and the karts the lap-times started coming down quite quickly. There were the usual small number of spins and bumping but nothing serious enough to warrant penalty stops which considering the competitive streaks of some of those in attendance was amazing.

Congratulations to Tony and Andrew from Haslemere on winning the race but was close and they were joined on the podium by teams from Godalming and Alton.

Many Thanks to Graham for the organisation and I could certainly see a revisit to that track appearing in the area calendar in the future.
