Bowling

Thursday 26th August 2010

Arranged a lift there and decided that we could wing it with a lift home.  The weather had been wet for the last week or two and it was drizzling as we arrived, surely Horsell Bowls Club would not let us young boys ruin their perfect green.  Never mind, the bar must be one of the most economic places we go to buy a drink.

However, much to our surprise we were told to get on and bowl.  Skill was as mixed as ever. For brief moments I thought my bowling was brilliant when the black ball landed anywhere near the white ball, then it would get dropped in the gutter at the back.

After several ends Rich S and myself beat the old timers showing youth does have its advantage (probably the luck of).

We then moved to the club house and were treated to an excellent meal of cooked meats, salad, pickles, boiled eggs in mayonnaise, cheese board and other such delights.

The traditional quiz was dispensed with in favour of Richard and Tom taking us through the fun of their Atlantic rowing adventure. (see www.rowingtheatlantic.com) We were all truly inspired by their determination and put off by the pain.  Why nobody offered to buy their boat and have a go themselves I will never know?

An excellent night fun, beer, food and inspiring story, also managed to get a lift home as well!
