Presidential Narrow Boat Trip
Narrow Boat Trip
Our 41 president, Dave Wall, kindly offered the trip in Narrow boat for our July business/social meeting which we snapped up. The infamous narrow boat was dusted down and Russ Ward joined Mr Wall at his home where they zoomed up to Ash Vale station to pick up Jon and Keith.
The evening was sunny and warm and beer and crisps were supplied by the generous Mr Wall. Keith took over (what a surprise) driving and showed us his Essex roots by trying a hand brake turn, wheel spins and asking where the bass box was kept. Chugging up to Mytchett we found Paul and Richard Schuster lurking under a bridge and they jumped on worrying Dave as the canal water was low and the extra weight of two 7 foot tablers made us scrape the bottom of the boat several times. Stopping at Frimley Green we headed off for a pint and a curry. All excellent fun so far.
Keith was left behind in Frimley Green (his choice, this time he had not insulted anyone that we had to run away) and we headed back to the boat where we found the sun had gone down and that were no street lights on the canal. Russ, sober, drove us back carefully and during this journey Dave brought out his port with Roquefort and biscuits. Great idea, except for the beer and curry we had just eaten. Jon had a dodgy stomach the next morning but blames it on a dodgy cracker. All in all a cracking evening and massive thanks to Dave, his narrow boat and the on board refreshments
