Thursday 27th May 2010 saw 8 valiant warriors descend on Lightwater Leisure Centre to take part in a sumo experience evening. As we listened to the safety briefing, rules and tradition of Sumo wrestling some of us realised we were going to have an easier night in the bouts than others. Each bout consisted of 3 attempts to get the other guy out of the circle so 2 teams of 4 were created the Red team consisted of Lee Jeff, Neil Kirby, Paul Freeman and Dave Wall and the Blue team consisted of Richard Cox, Richard Schuster, Neil Davidson and Gethin Lewis. The Red team did seem to have the measure of the Blue team and won 7 out of the 8 bouts to be crowned champions. We thought Rich S was a gonner when Neil K body splashed him after winning one of the bouts but Rich lived to fight on Then we were into a winner stays on competition which was quite comfortably won unsurprisingly by Neil K with Rich S coming a very worthy second. After a great evening throwing each other about in padded suits we headed to the Red Lion in Lightwater for a very nice pie & chips washed down with a beer or 2.
